Tin Talks

As always we have been busy here at Twiice and we are working on some exciting projects. It's been a busy and rewarding year, a year that has gone by with some impressive speed!

I am a believer in change, and at the moment I am currently scouting for new premises in Johannesburg, essentially the look and feel is going to be very similar to our magnificent Cape Town showroom and the same fantastic shopping experience will be offered to our Gauteng clients.

Due to the move our Johannesburg showroom stock is limited, however this does not affect availability or delivery times as  we are stocking products in our Johannesburg and Cape Town warehouses.

Watch this space next month as I will announce our new location in Johannesburg!

Stone by Marcel Wanders is a stool with a simple shape but with a very precious appearance. Made with an essential symmetrical linear shape which is reminiscent of an hourglass, its surface is simply extraordinary: it's irregular and comprised of a myriad of gemoetrical facets which reflect the light and create a striking and unique play of colours, much like a diamond.

Architect/Designer: Zaha Hadid

Architect/Designer: Zaha Hadid

Zaha Hadid is an architect who consistently pushes the boundaries of architecture and urban design. Her work experiments with spatial quality, extending and intensifying existing landscapes in the pursuit of a visionary aesthetic that encompasses all files of design, ranging from urban scale through to products, interiors and furniture. Best known for her seminal built works (Vitra Fire Station, Land Formation-One and the Strasbourg Team) her central concerns involve a simultaneous engagement in practice, teaching and research.

Hadid studied architecture at the Architectural Association from 1972 and was awarded the Diploma Prize in 1977. She then became a partner of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, taught at the AA with OMA collaborators Rem Koolhaas and Elia Zenghelis, and later led her own studio at the AA until 1987.

Fire Station by Zaha Hadid

Fire Station by Zaha Hadid

The Vitra Fire Station in Weil am Rhein was Zaha Hadid's first built project. The relatively small structure serves as a showcase for the unusual shapes and angles that architectural critics had admired in her conceptual work throughout the 1980s, with un-built projects such as her winning entry for the Peak International Design Competition for Hong Kong in 1983.

Constructed as a working firehouse within the Vitra furniture design and manufacturing complex (after a fire some years earlier proved the need for such a structure), the building was intended to serve all of Vitra's buildings which at the time fell outside the range of neighbouring fire districts. The firehouse thus became part of Vitra's program of building structures by world renowned architects, including Tadao Ando's Conference Pavilion, Frank Gehry's Design Museum and Alvaro Siza's Production Hall.

Lazy Jacks at Bell Roberts

Lazy Jacks at Bell Roberts

Twiice International played a part of the recent Bell Roberts exhibition with Lazy Jacks and Kartell's Four Table and Maui chairs perfecting the setting.

The Knowledge Chambers by Fritha Langerman  took place from the 27th June - 21st July 2007
.

The exhibition was of prints and 3-dimensional works making references to the ordering system of the Encyclopedie and the play between text, image, symbol and print in the construction of meaning and definition. The exhibiton made veiled historical references and co-opted the symbolic structure of the Cathedral in reference to the play between sanctioned and unofficial bodies of knowledge.
